The weekend reads that Teach Life Lessons!

This weekend brings us the celebration of the birth of Lord Shri Krishna the great teacher who taught the path of Karma; and also marks the birth anniversary Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former President of India and a great philosopher; in whose honour, September 5th is celebrated as Teacher's Day in India.

In life, we not only learn from our teachers, but also from the people in our lives and our experiences. in fact, with the right attitude, we can learn from everything and everyone - and above all, from books! The storehouse of knowledge, books are the silent and the best teachers that teach us things we cannot even imagine!
So this week, we bring you the list of weekend reads that can teach us some amazing things in life!

1) Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

Genre: Memoir, General Fiction, Philosophical Fiction

'One woman's search for everything' says the tagline; and the book is about just that - the quest of one woman to find herself. This is a book, that is not a mere story of a woman, who travels far to find herself; and eventually finds solace in food, spirituality; and love - no, this is a book that teaches us about life in all its beauty, about the sweetness of doing nothing, of letting go, about forgiving and moving on in life....This book is one treasure trove filled with teachings, just waiting to be discovered!

2) Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Genre: General Fiction, Adventure

Even if you have watched the movie, believe us, it will take only one reading of this amazing book to take you into an entirely different world - a world of immense possibilities, a world where nothing is exact and where two twos are not always four! This lovely book drives in the point that life is all about faith. It is the belief that matters, it is the acknowledgement of and the surrender to one supreme power that is essential, no matter by what name you call this supreme power! A must read to understand how perspective makes a whole lot of difference to everything!

3) The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger

Genre: Literary Fiction

This is a classic take on life lessons! This book deftly handles the themes of adolescence, teenage angst and alienation; and teaches us a very important lesson - conforming to or forcing ourselves to conform to the societal norms of perfection can bind us and hurt us. Instead, it is essential to be true to what you are, to be imperfect and to make mistakes - life is all about the imperfections. A must read to understand the beauty of imperfection in a seemingly perfect world!

4) Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson

An amusing story, an engaging plot, an easy read - and a valuable lesson - do you need anymore reasons to pick this book up for your weekend reading? Who Moved My Cheese is the story of optimism, stagnancy and the most inevitable of all - change! With an entertaining story, this book teaches us a very valuable lesson for life - that the only inevitable thing in life is change, and it does not help to feel sad about change and sorry for ourselves; but it helps to adapt to change instead, and to embrace the change and move on!
